Hiking aroun Philipsburg Montana

If you want adventure, grab a map and compass and hike to one of the many backcountry lakes where you can land a fish on every cast (it has been done) or simply enjoy the breathtaking views and wildlife above 7000 feet elevation. The Continental Divide Trail (CDT) is nearby as well as plentiful state and federal lands where hiking trails abound. Local trails vary from easy to difficult providing hiking opportunities and challenges for almost anyone. Popular hiking trails include Echo Lake Trail (3.2 miles), Fuse Lake (5.2 miles) and Dome Shaped Mountain (13.4 miles). Be sure to carry plenty of water, snacks, med-kit and bear spray.

If you’d rather have horses do the hiking for you, the Philipsburg area offers many horseback riding opportunities. Royal Tine Outfitters, out of Philipsburg, offers riders aged 8+ several options depending on experience during the months of July, August and September. Horseback sightseeing trips allow riders to cover significantly more miles of trail than hiking and provides access to more points of interest than any other mode of travel. We highly recommend adding this to your itinerary.
